Paul Ferguson has two more selections for us on Thursday from Newbury: Super Kenny (12.30) and Alverstone (13.00).
After yesterday’s 7/2 winner, Go Chieftain, Paul Ferguson has 2 more great tips today from Newbury;
Newbury’s three day Winter Festival gets underway on Thursday and, in recent years, the meeting has been dominated by leading trainers, Nicky Henderson and Paul Nicholls.
The pair each unleashes a potentially high-class novice in the 2m1f novices’ chase (1:35) and they also go head to head in the opening conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle.
Nicholls’ Pennellis did us a favour when winning at Taunton recently, but preference on this occasion is for Henderson’s Super Kenny (12:30) who looked a very smart prospect when winning on his debut in March.
The following month he flopped in Grade 1 company at Aintree and he has since been beaten at odds of 1/3, but his trainer was very positive in his recent stable tour and he is well worth another chance off a mark of 113. Sure Josie Sure is another to note in a very interesting opener.
Henderson saddles Line Freedom in the next and, after winning at Towcester (form that was boosted at the weekend), she looks ready for the step up in trip.
Alverstone (1:00), however, may prove a tough nut to crack, as she looked a smart mare when shedding her maiden tag at Chepstow last month.
A dual bumper winner, the seven-year-old looked better the further she went last time, so the drop back in trip may not be ideal. But, Newbury’s long home straight ought to be right up her street and she can follow up.
