Nozic, the 9-yr-old gelding owned by bookmaker Coral, is set to make his seasonal reappearance at Cheltenham this Saturday.
The Listed Jardine Lloyd Thompson Handicap Hurdle is his intended target. The 2008 Rowland Meyrick Chase winner, now trained by Nick Gifford, will run for Racing Welfare this weekend, with any prize money won going to the charity.
Richard Negus, Racing Welfare fundraising and communications executive, commented: “Racing Welfare is experiencing a 34% upturn in requests for our help at the moment, particularly from working stable staff throughout the training centres. The generous offer from the Coral team to donate any prize money to us from Nozic running at Cheltenham on Saturday in the 3.10 is absolutely superb. I for one will be cheering him home from the stands and the whole of the Racing Welfare team hopes that Nick Gifford’s sparkling form holds up; there are 17,000 stable lads and lasses who will benefit from Nozic getting his nose in front!”
Coral’s David Stevens said: “We originally purchased Nozic to run in last season’s John Smith’s Grand National, and having experienced that, we decided to keep him in training for another year. Looking forward, we plan to use the horse in a variety of ways, as a staff incentive and for marketing purposes, but we are delighted to begin his new campaign in support of Racing Welfare, and hope he can pick up some prize money for this most worthwhile of causes.”
