“Jumpers To Follow” author, Paul Ferguson expects Montparnasse to come up trumps at Salisbury on Monday.
With just three end of season Flat cards in Britain on Monday, it’s a relatively quiet start to the week from a punting point of view and, therefore, today there is just one selection.
The most interesting race of the day is the concluding 1m6f handicap at Salisbury, which was won last year by Overturn, who of course went on to land the Scottish Champion Hurdle, the Northumberland Plate and the Galway Hurdle.
Luca Cumani’s lightly raced Isobar is bound to be popular and he has plenty more to offer over this sort of trip. But, given that his sole victory to date came against much weaker opposition, he still has a little to prove in a race of this nature.
More interesting at the prices is the only three-year-old in the line up Montparnasse (5:20) who won over this trip at Nottingham in July.
After that he ran well in defeat in the Melrose Stakes at York and, latterly, when fifth in the Cesarewitch Trial at Newmarket.
This will be the first time that Brian Meehan’s colt will be running on an easy surface but, being by Montjeu, there has to be a chance that he will improve for it.
Everything looks in place for a bold showing from the likable colt.
Monday’s selection:
5:20 Salisbury: Montparnasse
