Paul Ferguson crosses the Irish Sea to Galway for his selections on Monday; Jessies Dream and Mississippi River.
With Monday’s domestic action looking far from thrilling, I’m heading over to Ireland for the day’s selections and to Galway, where the card is most interesting.
A lot of attention will be on Cheltenham Festival winner Berties Dream in the beginners’ chase and, whilst he is greatly respected, the experience Jessies Dream (4:35) gained in two starts last term may prove crucial.
Gordon Elliott’s charge fell when holding every chance two out in a strong race at Leopardstown over Christmas and returned there to finish third in a Grade 2 on his only subsequent chase start.
The former points winner carries the silks of David Johnson for this first time here.
In the concluding bumper Mississippi River (5:35) looks capable of going close for the shrewd John Kiely.
Well backed on debut at the Punchestown Festival, he was given far too much to do and ran on well to take fourth in a race that has worked out well since.
Monday’s selections:
4:35 Galway: Jessies Dream
5:35 Galway: Mississippi River
