Paul Ferguson has two selections from Wales today in Doctor Pat at Bangor and Merehead at Chepstow.
After winning novice handicaps at Sandown and Newbury last December Doctor Pat (4:40) looked a young chaser going places and was still going well when pecking three out in a competitive contest at Cheltenham next time.
His final start for Francois Doumen leaves slight question marks but, on an attractive looking mark of 122, he is worth taking a small chance on, on this debut for Jonjo O’Neill
Paul Nicholls saddles a runner in each race at Chepstow and looks sure to leave the Welsh venue with a winner or two. The pick of the Champion Trainer’s squad may well be in the concluding bumper where Merehead (5:45) will take some beating judged on his fine second on debut at Newbury in March.
The taking son of Al Namix looked as though he would benefit greatly for that initial racecourse experience and the presence of recent Worcester winner, Kartanian, means he should be backable.
Saturday’s selections:
4:40 Bangor: Doctor Pat
5:45 Chepstow: Merehead
