Live on Skysports 2: Thu 18.00: Preston Guild Hall is this week’s venue as Neil Robertson gets ready to take on Mark Selby.
Six of snooker’s biggest names will battle it out in the latest stage of the Premier League Snooker series at Preston’s Guild Hall on Thursday, September 30. Here, the Daily Star’s Kevin Francis casts an eye over the baize….
World champion and new world number one Neil Robertson will be full of confidence after his 5-1 World Open win over Ronnie O’Sullivan on Sunday. The adventurous Aussie figures in the final match of the evening where he is best-priced 11/5 chance with William Hill to overcome Masters title-holder Mark Selby (6/4 with Boylesports and Stan James).
The first match of the evening sees Hong Kong’s Marco Fu (9/4 with Sportingbet and Stan James) take on England’s Shaun Murphy (5/4 Boylesports). Fu, outright winner of this tournament in 2003, will be looking to repeat that feat, as will Murphy who enjoyed a tremendous victory against Ronnie O’Sullivan to take the title.
After that, UK champ Ding Junhui , a 9/5 shot with William Hill, faces Welshman Mark Williams (8/5 Sportingbet) with both players enjoying a resurgence in form, it promises to be a humdinger of a match. Williams, a two-time World Champion in 2000 and 2003, was a regular performer in the League but dropped out when his form slumped. He is now back with it all to prove.
Recommended bet: Selby v Robertson looks to be a close, attack-minded affair so the prospect of a draw could well be on the cards at 11/5 with Boylesports.
Happy punting
Kevin
