Football Betting: Torquay are fast out of the traps this season in League 2 but a trip to Southend could prove a step too far for them. At the wrong end, Macclesfield and Stockport fight it out. League 2 odds.
Torquay made it four wins out of four last weekend at Port Vale but they might not have it all their own way at Southend, whose confidence has been lifted by a first win of the campaign at Bradford last weekend.
The Shrimpers notched twice without reply at Valley Parade to demonstrate that they’re no League Two pushovers and although it’s perhaps a touch ambitious to back them at 21/10 with Ladbrokes to bring the pace-setting Gulls back down to earth, they’re worth considering at 4/7 (888Sport) to avoid defeat on home soil.
Another team playing on their own patch that has perhaps been underestimated are Accrington Stanley. John Coleman’s charges are yet to concede a goal in League Two and they simply look overpriced at 15/8 with Betdaq to overcome a Chairboys side that has made a similarly solid but unspectacular start. It’s a contest that looks set to yield few goals given how both defences have performed so far and Stan James’ 4/6 for the total to be lower than 2.5 looks a banker at the Crown Ground.
Towards the bottom of the table, Macclesfield look primed to grab their first win as they entertain struggling Stockport; the Silkmen a generous 6/5 with Paddy Power to inflict a third straight defeat on the Hatters and bet365 make Barnet 8/5 to lift the Underhill gloom by beating Cheltenham.
High-flying Chesterfield meanwhile, can maintain their decent start to the season by defeating Lincoln; a result rated by Partybets at 8/11 but the top three showdown between Shrewsbury and Rotherham looks set to be inconclusive (9/4, 888Sport), although both teams should find the net; an outcome William Hill quote at 10/11.
