Four straight wins, all accompanied by clean sheets have propelled Port Vale to the top of League Two but while their form can’t be ignored, up against second-placed Shrewsbury, themselves in fairly decent nick, the Valiants can’t be recommended with any real conviction at 5/4 (William Hill) even if they do deserve to be favourites.
At a slightly skinnier 4/5 courtesy of Totesport, third-placed Rotherham are a better bet as they play host to misfiring Bradford. The Bantams have lost all but one of their away games and have drawn a blank in four of their last six league matches, so it would be no surprise to see Ronnie Moore’s men win ‘to nil’ at the Don Valley Stadium, where Paddy Power rate Millers marksman Adam Le Fondre at 5/6 to get on the scoresheet for the fourth match in a row.
Wycombe are yet to fire this term having drawn six out of eight but they can finally register that elusive second win of the campaign against poor travellers Barnet; a result Ladbrokes offer at an overly generous 4/5. Crewe meanwhile, are unbeaten in six and at 5/6 with Stan James the Alex can also register a home success, as they face local rivals Macclesfield.
Less obviously, Cheltenham have been underestimated a touch by Victor Chandler, who make the Robins 15/8 to add to their three home victories as Oxford visit Whaddon Road and Aldershot look too big at 13/5 (William Hill) as they make the trip to stuttering Torquay.
