Horse Racing: Racing guru Alan Thomson takes a good look at some of Saturday’s racing and picks out some fancies at Goodwood, Chester and Doncaster, including the Ladbrokes St Leger.
CLASS will rise to the top in Saturday’s Ladbrokes St Leger and REWILDING (3.20) wins a confident vote to land the final Classic of the season at Doncaster. The Godolphin colt spreadeagled his rivals in the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York, having looked ill at ease at Epsom when staying on into third place in the Derby. Oaks heroine Snow Fairy rates my biggest threat, while John Gosden reaches for the blinds in an effort to eke out a bit more improvement from Arctic Cosmos.
At Chester, HARRIS TWEED (3.35) has been found an ideal opening to get his season back on track after being thrown into the deep end behind Rewilding at York. Harris Tweed went down with all guns blazing behind Corsica at HQ and chief opponent Les Fazzani appears to have gone off the boil. Golden Sword has questions to answer.
Earlier on the Roodee card, INTERNATIONALDEBUT (3.05) is worth an interest from his inside berth. He finished fourth here behind Kyllachy Star on good/soft ground and produced another solid effort at Kempton last time. He is hard to win with but Paul Pickard takes 3lb off, replacing regular pilot Tony Culhane.
Gone are the days when a John Dunlop handicapper struck fear into the layers at his local Goodwood track, but ITLAAQ (5.15) can prove the maestro has lost none of his old magic. The four-year-old has had three runs at the course (5-1-4) and was only pipped by Satwa Moon at Haydock (good/soft) back in June.
Tally Ho
Alan
