Tottenham travel to Switzerland to face Young Boys. Can Harry Redknapp’s men reach the group stages? Compare Champions League odds.
The fact that Tottenham were drawn against Young Boys in the Champions League qualifiers is obviously a headline writer’s dream but it was also fairly good news for Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, who could have expected a tougher assignment at this stage in the competition. Admittedly, the Swiss outfit ousted Fenerbahce in the last round, but at 1/5 with 888Sport, it’s Tottenham that look set to progress from this double header.
They somehow failed to find the net against Manchester City on Saturday but showed enough attacking invention to suggest that they will have no such trouble here and so although the first leg is in Berne, Redknapp’s men are deservedly odds-on at 5/6 (Stan James) to all but book their place in the group stages with an away win.
Also at 5/6, this time courtesy of bet365, is a haul of at least two goals for Spurs and a man that looks capable of helping them out in that department is Gareth Bale. The Welshman came closest to breaking the deadlock at the weekend, striking a post and fluffing a late chance and at 4/1 (William Hill), he looks a cracking bet to make amends by getting on the scoresheet at any stage.
In the evening’s other fixtures, Dinamo Kiev are evens at Victor Chandler to register a first leg success against a vulnerable-looking Ajax, Zenit St Petersburg are 4/6 at Ladbrokes to see off Auxerre but may have to settle for a draw (11/4, Betdaq) and Rosenborg, at 23/20 (Jaxx.com) can edge out FC Copenhagen.
