UFC BETTING: Live on ESPN: Sun 03.00 Betrescue’s latest signing is the Daily Star’s veteran sports writer Kevin Francis. This week Kevin looks ahead to UFC 117 in Oakland, USA.
ANDERSON SILVA, arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in UFC, is odds-on to retain his middleweight title against mouthy CHAEL SONNEN in the early hours of Sunday morning. Brazilian Silva is a 2/9 chance (888sport, Bluesquare and bodog) for this five-rounder at UFC 117 in Oakland, Californa, while Sonnen, who has spent the build-up firing insults at the champ, is available at 4/1 with Victor Chandler.
Silva has racked up 11 straight wins since joining the mushrooming world of UFC but he can’t afford a repeat of the antics he displayed in his last victory over Demian Maia at UFC 112. Silva earned the boos of the crowd –
and a yellow card from UFC president Dana White – after dancing around and hardly laying a glove on Maia en-route to a unanimous points win. Sonnen, who impressively defeated Nate Marquardt at UFC 109, could take advantage of any such approach.
While the Silva odds are somewhat prohibitive, ROY ‘BIG COUNTRY’ NELSON could spring a surprise in his heavyweight clash with JUNIOR DOS SANTOS who is a best-priced 4/13 with bodog. After all, Nelson gained his second successive Octagon win with a devastating 39-second KO of 6ft 11in giant Stefan Struve in his last fight. Nelson is a handy 11/4 with Skybet, Victor Chandler and Boylesports.
RECOMMENDED BET: I fancy Roy Nelson to spring another surprise by beating Junior Dos Santos with those odds of 11/4 (Skybet, Victor Chandler and Boylesports) very tempting.
Cheers
Kevin
