FOOTBALL BETTING: Crewe won’t want a repeat of last season’s weak home form if they are to improve on 18th, can Hereford exploit this on the opening day of the season?
Crewe won just seven of their 23 home games last season and that Gresty Road malaise can continue on the first day of this campaign as the Alex entertain Hereford. Admittedly the latter struggled on the road last term, but things look to be changing for the better at Edgar Street, where the Bulls have a new manager, Simon Davey, and are very much looking forward and they simply look enormous at 3/1 with Ladbrokes to secure an opening day maximum.
Stuart Fleetwood could prove pivotal to any revival in Hereford’s fortunes and he’s a steal at 9/4 with William Hill to get his Bulls stay off to a flyer with a goal in this one; the ex-Charlton and Forest Green man also alluring at 15/2 (William Hill) to break the deadlock.
Also overpriced for an away victory are Port Vale, who could mount a promotion challenge during the forthcoming campaign. Micky Adams side almost reached the play-offs last time around as did the Shakers but the pair could head in opposite directions this season and the Valiants have been underestimated at 21/10 (Victor Chandler) ahead of their Gigg Lane contest.
Elsewhere, title favourites Gillingham can make a winning start; Betfred quoting them at 4/6 to defeat Cheltenham, Totesport post evens against new boys Stevenage sending Macclesfield home empty-handed while Jaxx.com offer 11/8 for Torquay to see off Northampton at Plainmoor.
