FOOTBALL BETTING: Burnley will begin their return to the Championship by hosting promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest. Can Billy Davies’ men get into the habit of winning away?
Nottingham Forest drew eleven of their 23 away fixtures last season and won just four as they finished in third place and as they head to relegated Burnley on the campaign’s opening day, there’s every chance that they could record another stalemate on the road; a result Betdaq rate at 12/5.
Both sides are amongst the promotion favourites and subsequently, well aware of the danger the Clarets pose, Forest boss Billy Davies will look to keep things tight and there’s a feeling that he would settle for a point. Stan James’ 9/1 for it to end goalless at Turf Moor therefore catches the eye.
Across the rest of the Championship programme, value is hard to come by, especially as the season’s first fixtures often throw up a few surprises. That said, Reading look a banker at 4/7 with Totesport to see off a Scunthorpe side that could struggle this term and under Aidy Boothroyd Coventry can capitalise on Portsmouth’s troubles at the Ricoh Arena; the Sky Blues priced by Paddy Power at 11/8.
Meanwhile in Sunday’s clash in South Wales, Cardiff look huge at odds of 23/20 with Victor Chandler to get the better of Sheffield United. The Bluebirds haven’t been able to strengthen as much as they’d like but crucially retained manager Dave Jones and they have enough in hand on home soil to overcome a Blades outfit that could again struggle to create. For the ambitious, City are 12/5 (888Sport) to prevail without conceding.
