GOLF BETTING: Live On Skysports 1: Thu from 19:00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s WGC Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone and flags up his best bets for the tournament.
Tiger Woods may not have made the sparkling return many had expected but he has also not lost his way altogether and will welcome returning to Firestone this week for the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, a venue he has won on 7 times in the last decade and where he clearly feels at home. 9/2 (Paddy Power) looks a great price this week under the circumstances; Woods slipped out of the automatic spots for US Ryder Cup side last week, I expect him to be back in by Sunday night.
Padraig Harrington finished runner up here 12 months ago and to Ross Fisher in last weeks Irish Open and is also desperate to earn plenty of Ryder Cup points in the next fortnight to earn an automatic spot in Colin Montgomorie’s European Ryder Cup Team. At 22/1 (888Sport) he looks a great each way bet this week with all firms paying 1/4 odds 1,2,3,4,5.
Of the outiders, Justin Rose at 40/1 with Totesport looks over the odds while Camilo Villegas is a big price at 80/1 (Skybet).
With huge Ryder Cup points at stake both at Firestone and in next weeks USPGA there are plenty of subplots on a course where 20 years ago I saw Jose Maria
Olazabal destroy the field with a majestic opening round of 61. Tiger Woods has dominated here recently and I expect this domination to continue this week.
