TENNIS BETTING: Wimbledon has just finished but the tennis calendar doesn’t hang around; the ATP and WTA move on to Newport, Budapest and Bastad. Marathon man Nic Mahut is back in action.
Mens:
A lot of the top players have opted to rest this week after Wimbledon and the fact that the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships at Newport is only worth 250 points on the tour means that a few others, such as Djokovic, will opt to play in this weeks Davis Cup action.
At Newport, last year’s runner-up Sam Querrey (ranked 19th) comes in as number 1 seed and top of the markets at 7/4 with Ladbrokes. American Mardy Fish is 2nd fav at 7/2 with Paddy Power.
Nicolas Mahut returns to action after his world record marathon match against John Isner at Wimbledon, facing 3rd seed Alejandro Falla. Mahut is 9/1 with Stan James for the tournament and displayed an alomost robotic ability to hold serve at SW19, which could take him to the final in this tournament. He is 4/6 at Sportingbet to overcome Falla.
Defending champion Rajeev Ram is a tasty 8/11 with Betdaq to win his match up with Ivan Navarro and 20/1 at Skybet to win outright.
Womens:
In Budapest, Alisa Kleybanova (ranked 27th) is top seed. Agnes Szavay, last year’s winner, is 7th seed and begins her defence as 1/9 fav (William Hill) against Kostanic Tošic.
At the Collectors Swedish Open, last year’s finalists María José Martínez Sánchez and Caroline Wozniacki have not entered and Flavia Pennetta (ranked 12th) looks good to win here.
