HORSE RACING: The Derby: Live on BBC1: Sat 15.00: There are multiple movers for The Derby as St Nicholas Abbey pulls out with injury. Check the latest prices for The Derby.
St Nicholas Abbey, who drifted wildy in the odds over the weekend, has been withdrawn today due to injury.
The Ballydoyle horse was antepost fav for 6 months and touched 7/4 over the winter. Ladbrokes estimate £2 million has been lost on the O’Brien entry by the punters.
That leaves Jan Vermeer, also an O’Brien horse, as the new market leader. Jan Vermeer moved from 6/1 to 4/1 on Friday amidst speculation over St Nicholas Abbey and over the weekend, he was slashed to 11/4, 5/2, 9/4, 2/1 and finally 7/4 with 888sport and Ladbrokes. Totesport, Victor Chandler and William Hill have all gone into 13/8.
Workforce is another big mover as the large void in the market is being filled. He was moved from 7/1 to 11/2 by Paddy Power, who have now shortened further to 5/1. Ladbrokes have held steady at 6/1.
Cape Blanco, the Dante winner and yet another O’Brien entry, was another main mover. Victor Chandler and Bet365 both shortened to 7/1, from 12/1 and 10/1 respectively.
