FOOTBALL BETTING: Live on Skysports2: Sun 15.00: Rotherham can finish a steady season by seeing off Dagenham in the League 2 Playoff finals. Chris Hutcheon previews.
Rotherham completed the double over Dagenham and Redbridge this season, notching three times over the two matches and keeping clean sheets on both occasions, so they head into Sunday’s League Two play-off final with the formbook on their side. The odds also favour the Millers in most places and indeed the bookies, with the exception of Ladbrokes who price both teams at 5/6, look to have called the promotion showdown correctly.
Only Hereford have managed to the breach the Rotherham rearguard across the last seven games and that defensive stability could be crucial at Wembley where they are 6/4 with bet365 to gain promotion to League One in normal time.
John Still’s men, a 19/10 chance at Betfred for victory after 90 minutes, are nevertheless in high spirits having hit Morecambe for six in the first leg of their semi-final tie and they won’t be without their takers at 12/5 (Totesport) to take the contest to extra-time. However, the Daggers might not be sharp enough in attack to break down Ronnie Moore’s stubborn side, despite that recent six-goal haul and having shut out Dagenham twice already this season, Rotherham look decent value at 15/8 (888Sport) to repeat the feat a third time.
Betfred combine that shutout with a Millers success at 3/1 and falling into that category, for those willing to be a touch more precise, are Victor Chandler’s 7/1 for Moore’s troops to grab the only goal and William Hill’s 11/1 chalked against Rotherham notching twice without reply.
Notably, Adam Le Fondre is responsible for all three of the Millers goals against Dagenham this season and he’s the man to follow in terms of scoring in this one. Rotherham’s top scorer struck in both legs of his side’s semi-final against Aldershot to take his tally to 30 for the season and Paddy Power price the former Rochdale marksman at 11/10 to strike again. Stan James meanwhile, rate Le Fondre at 4/1 to break the deadlock.
