Its the final day of the season in Scotland with one Europa League place still to be decided. David Russell previews the action in the SPL
If any lucky soul had stuck a pound on a 6-6 draw at Fir Park in midweek, they would probably have ended up more than five hundred quid richer but it’s safe to assume that the bookies didn’t field many requests for that flutter and it’s not likely to be a popular choice as Hibs face Dundee United looking to bounce back from Wednesday’s capitulation by sneaking into fourth spot.
A straightforward stalemate, at 5/2 (Ladbrokes) is far more realistic at Tannadice, where the Hibees’ leaky defence points to a total of three or more goals at 11/10 with Stan James and the ambitious might fancy Betfred’s 14/1 chalked against a 2-2 scoreline. Prolific striker Anthony Stokes meanwhile, has had a cracking season for Hibs, netting 21 league goals and Paddy Power rate him at a tasty 12/5 to add to his tally at some stage.
A draw would be enough to nudge Yogi’s men above Motherwell and into the Europa League, provided the Steelmen lose at Rangers and with the champions looking to end the season on a high in front of their own fans, they look a banker at 4/11 with Paddy Power to break the visitors’ hearts.
Finally, at Tynecastle, Celtic are in search of an eighth win a row and in slightly higher spirits on the back of that Old Firm triumph the Hoops look set to provide a payout for those backing them at 8/11 (Totesport) to see off Hearts. Another victory of course would strengthen the case for Neil Lennon to be handed the managerial reigns at Parkhead on a permanent basis and William Hill now make him 11/10 for the post.
