FORMULA ONE BETTING: The F1 troupe is making it’s way to the Circuit de Catalunya for the Spanish GP, Sebastien Vettel is 12/5 fav with Betfred to win against strong opposition.
&assetThe F1 circuit makes the first forays onto European soil this weekend in the form of the Spanish GP. A certain amount of interest will be cast in the directions of both Jenson Button and Sebastien Vettel, one the Championship leader and one the race favourite.
Button now has 2 wins under his belt after the China GP and can be backed at 9/1 with Blue Square to prosper here for his 3rd season win. The race performances of the McClaren men, Button and Hamilton, have been very admirable. Both drivers have increased positions from the grid to the finish line in every race so far this season. In stark contrast to this is the fact that Red Bull have claimed 4 pole positions yet none of the pole qualifiers have won. Vettel won but from 3rd on the grid.
Vettel is still fav to win though, 11/5 with 888sport, as Red Bull look to improve their race performance compared to their qualifying successes. An interesting fact about the Spanish GP is that for the last 9 years, the pole position driver has gone on to win. With Red Bull so strong in qualifying, perhaps it is time for them to convert pole to victory.
Alonso, who agrees pole position is vital on his home track, is 2nd fav 9/2 with Betfred. He has performed consistently well in qualifying, save Malaysia, which serve him in good stead for this race.
Michael Schumacher has all but written himself off after a weak start has seen one finish better than 10th. Liuzzi, a talented Italian driver, is 2/1 with Ladbrokes to finish in the points.
Red Bull are 6/4 with 888sport to be the winning constructor while the McClarens of Button and Hamilton are a 5/2 shot with Bet365.
So, it is all about the qualifying for Red Bull. It would appear that with the combination of dominating race pole this season and the history of the pole-rewarding Circuit de Catalunya, it is all for Vettel’s taking. Yet, the sheer race performance quality from the McClaren drivers is a worry, making Button’s 9/1 tempting for each way, top 3 drivers at quarter odds, with Blue Square.
Alonso may be a good bet here, his good qualifying campaign coupled with home circuit knowledge and decent race performance makes a place bet on him quite good. He is 4/1 with William Hill to win and a place bet would give you 1/1 for first 3 drivers.
