HORSE RACING: Alan Thomson, former racing editor of the Daily Record, pulls out four more potential bookie bashing tips for the cards at York, Haydock and Goodwood on Saturday.
RICHARD FAHEY has chosen to muddy the waters by running two in the opener at York on Saturday and TRIP THE LIGHT (2.05) gets the nod over stablemate Royal Straight.
This is a big class drop for Trip The Light after his no show behind Hillview Boy in a warm event at Hamilton eight days ago. The handicapper continues to take no chances, hence this drop into a claimer, but Lee Topliss removes a very useful 7lb from his back.
Royal Straight is getting his act together judged on a runaway success at Nottingam a fortnight ago and may be preferred in the betting. However, it wasn’t a warm contest and Trip The Light has a course and distance victory at the Knavesmire to his name. Mull Of Dubai has been out of sorts so far this season but is another who likes it at York.
The Fahey team could have a rewarding day at their local track with a hatful of fancied runners. WILLIAM MORGAN (4.50) was just done for toe by Fibs And Flannel and Dolphin Rock at Hamilton but still looks quite progressive.
At Goodwood, Richard Hannon’s GORDON FLASH (5.00) was just beaten in a three-way thriller at Windsor last time and should be able to defy a subsequent 5lb rise in the ratings against an exposed bunch.
On a terrific Haydock card, the frustrating FATHSTA (4.05) remains dangerously well handicapped. He pulled like a train and blew his chance at Chester but this drop back to six furlongs looks sure to suit if he consents to put his best foot forward.
Tally Ho
Alan
