Betrescue Director David Russell gives his weekly preview of the weekend’s top flight action in Scotland. This week it’s the Scottish Cup 4th Round
Only two of this weekend’s Cup matches pitch SPL sides against each other, with the most intriguing contest bringing St Johnstone and Dundee United together for the fourth time this season.
The last three fixtures involving the pair have produced 14 goals, a statistic which suggests that Stan James’s 10/11 odds for tomorrow’s duel to yield more than two has the look of a nap about it. Victor Chandler offers 9/5 against the tie’s total goal minutes exceeding 166.
Dundee United boast a fine away league record, having lost just once on the road, hence Betfred install them as their 11/8 favourites. By contrast, St Johnstone are an attractive-looking 2/1 with online firm Jaxx.com to settle this delicately-poised tie first time around; Ladbrokes offer the draw at 12/5.
Rangers have beaten St Mirren on the last five occasions they’ve met and at as they’re priced at 2/5 (888Sport), bookies clearly believe it will be six from six by tomorrow tea-time. The Saints have won just one of the 17 cup ties the pair have contested, hence their 8/1 odds (Betdaq) to win; Victor Chandler marks the draw at 4/1.
Elsewhere, Hibs (1/10, Ladbrokes) should cruise past Montrose at Easter Road, while Aberdeen are considered a 4/5 shot (Totesport) to beat Raith Rovers. Despite enjoying home advantage, Raith kick off priced at 4/1 by bet365 and even the draw, offered at 11/4 by online firm Jaxx.com, is considered something of an outside bet.
Dunfermline are Paddy Power’s massive 11/1 underdogs to overhaul Celtic (2/7, bet365), while Ross County appeal at 4/6 (Totesport) to beat Stirling Albion and William Hill post 4/9 in favour of Dundee eliminating Ayr.
If there’s to be an upset, the Caley Jags, priced at 7/2 (Stan James) could be the team to provide it.
Kilmarnock may be flushed with their midweek success at Celtic’s expense and they are Partybets’ even money jollies, but Betfred prices Thistle at an eye-catching 10/1 to win 1-0 – odds than cannot be ignored.
