TENNIS BETTING: Ladbrokes make Andy Murray 1/3 to win a Grand Slam in his career and 11/8 to break his duck in 2010 after his straight sets defeat to Roger Federer in the final of the Australian Open.
The British number one was defeated 6-3 6-4 7-6 at Melbourne in his second Grand Slam final and Ladbrokes bet 8/15 that he’ll end the year empty handed again.
Ladbrokes spokesman Nick Weinberg said: “Murray showed enough this tournament to convince us that his first slam triumph is surely a matter of when and not if.
He may have come up short on this occasion, but there are bound to be plenty more opportunities in the future.”
Paddy Power make the Scot 16/1 to win the French Open, he’s 7/2 at 888Sport to win Wimbledon and 10/3 with Stan James for US Open glory.
Two bookies were breathed a huge sigh of relief after Federer saved their blushes and a monster payout as a sustained patriotic plunge went sount. Both totesport and Sportingbet had pledged to refund all losing outright bets if Murray had beaten Federer to take the title.
