GOLF BETTING: Live on Sky Sports 2: Thurs 9pm Angus Loughran previews this week’s Phoenix Open and fancies the each way chances of Ian Poulter, JB Holmes, Kevin Na and Paul Goydos.
Ian Poulter reached new heights on Sunday when defeating Paul Casey in an historic World Matchplay in Tuscon Arizona and he is 22/1 at Betfred to follow up in his first visit to the raucous Waste Management Phoenix Open one of the season’s longstading events on PGA TOUR.
Course experiece is vital here and I like the chances at 22/1 (Paddy Power) of Champion in 2006 and 2008 JB Holmes whom with two top 3 finishes in his 3 starts this season is cleary in good nick and his chances this week look greater than his current odds to me.
Phil Mickleson heads the market at 8/1 at bet365 and Ladbrokes and despite missing the cut here has winning form and will be fresh after taking last week’s World Matchplay off he has an obvious chance and is worth a win saver.
Kevin Na is like England’s Oliver Wilson. He seems to be on the weekend leaderboards on a regular basis but like Wilson he has yet to win. He has a great record here and has shown enough form this season to suggest he can make the breakthrough to the winners enclosure shortly he is 35/1 this week at Stan James and could be worth an each way shout for a top five finish.
Golf can be cruel game as Paul Goydos found out in LA a week last Sunday when taking a quad 9 on back nine when very much in contention. He will obviously rue what happened but i am amazed he is 125/1 for this one with William Hill
No action in Europe this week but with 8 Europeans in top 13 of the World Rankings Colin Montgomorie must be a very contented European Ryder Cup Captain at present although he is going to have a tough choice on his wildcards.
Enjoy the coverage from Phoenix on Sky where the crowds make it feel like a major championship.
