Betrescue Director David Russell gives his weekly preview of all the weekend’s top flight action in Scotland.
Rangers’ 1-0 reverse at Pittodrie last week was hardly a surprise, though few suspect they’ll suffer two consecutive defeats by losing at bottom club Falkirk tomorrow. Ladbrokes chalk 4/9 against a Rangers victory and while Walter Smith’s men have gone through an awkward patch of late, even the draw, priced at 7/2 by bet365, looks a long shot.
Indeed, bookies report the most popular outcome in the correct score markets is a 2-0 away win, offered at 13/2 by Betdaq.
Despite beating Rangers after playing with 10 men for most of the second half last weekend, Aberdeen travel to Parkhead as Boylesports’ massive 8/1 underdogs to overhaul Celtic tomorrow. The league leaders, by contrast, are Betfred’s 1/3 favourites to secure their fifth home win of the campaign, but ambitious punters who appreciate that the Dons are capable of digging deep when necessary may prefer Victor Chandler’s 7/1 for both halves to finish level.
Kilmarnock have lost all four of their matches since beating St Johnstone 2-1 at the end of October, during which they’ve scored once and conceded ten. By contrast, St Johnstone have won three and drawn one of their five subsequent contests, a record which accounts for their status as Jaxx.com’s 11/10 favourites to claim maximum points tomorrow.
Kilmarnock, priced as Partybets’ 9/4 outsiders, have yet to record a victory in six away games this term, a run that has seen them find the next only once. It’s a statistic which adds appeal to Sportingbet’s 3/1 for the Saints to win when kicking off with a one goal deficit and to Stan James’s 6/4 odds for the home side to hold the lead when disappearing for their half time cuppa.
Elsewhere, Dundee United (8/13, Sportingbet) are competitively priced to beat St Mirren (11/2, Betdaq) and while Hibs are Partybets’ even money favourites to beat Motherwell at Easter Road, as the visitors are unbeaten away from home, the 5/2 posted by Jaxx.com against the draw is worthy of further consideration.
