The announcement came after snow started to fall in London on Wednesday morning. Prior to that the bookmaker witnessed an avalanche of bets after local Donegal postman Michael Gallagher, renowned for correctly predicting the weather, forecasted a snowy Christmas morning! The gamble saw the odds on a White Christmas in Dublin and Belfast plummet from 4/1 to just 5/2.
Over 4,000 bets were placed by punters across the UK and Ireland on a white Christmas and all those lucky punters will get ! an early Christmas present regardless of where they bet on snow to fall.
Paddy Power said: “Met Eireann think we’re bonkers as they say there’s ‘snow’ chance of a white Christmas but Michael Gallagher’s predictions and a frosty London town are all good enough indications for us and we’re happy to stick our necks on the line!”
