Live on SS1 & 3: Thu 10.30 & Fri 22.00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s Euro Masters and Deutsche Bank and picks his Selections:
The Qualification for 2012 Ryder Cup starts this week and never before has competition been so intense for a place in squad with Open Champion Darren Clarke considered to have no chance by Skybet who offer him at 25/1 to play in Medinah next September.
The team will of course contain a few shocks and Thomas Bjorn will be hoping to be one of those after gaining his 2nd win of 2011 at Gleneagles on Sunday – he is a tempting 16/1 (Skybet) to make the squad and looks a fair price at 55/1 with Boylesports in this weeks Euro Masters in the Swiss Alps.
A strong field headed by Rory McLlroy at 19/2 (bet365) and Lee Westwood at 10/1 (Ladbrokes) is a great way for Ryder Cup Qualification to start. Lee Westwood only needs to have a good week with the putter to return to the winners enclosure, he is driving the ball better than anyone in the game at present and I like his chances this week.
I firmly believe Alex Noren is currently underated and at 30/1 with Blue Square he looks decent value this week he is also a tempting 11/2 to make 2012 Ryder Cup Team with Skybet.
In the USA, it is a Monday finish in Boston where 33 of top 50 in the World gather for Deutche Bank at TPC Boston for the 2nd leg of the Fedex Playoffs.
Luke Donald is 14/1 (Paddy Power) market leader with Steve Stricker 16/1 with Stan James and a decent each way bet here.
Adam Scott at 20/1 (Totesport) is also a must for the shortlist this week as he plays this course well and is in really decent form at present while there is no more steady player than Matt Kuchar available at 25/1 with Ladbrokes. The best of the outsiders could be Gary Woodland at 50/1 ().
After ducking Hurricane Earl last year, Irene looks to have passed Boston and those that questioned last week’s decision to reduce the New York event to 54 holes may want to revise their thoughts after the course was still under water on Tuesday!
Good luck
Angus Loughran
