Live on SS2 & 3: Thu 10.00 & 20.00: Angus Loughran previews this week’s Johnnie Walker and The Barcalys and picks his bets: Selections:
Luke Donald may be 14/1 favourite with Ladbrokes to win The Barclays in New Jersey this week but I see Steve Stricker as the man to beat and rate him as a great each way bet at 16/1 (Totesport) – 1/4 odds first 5 – to do so. Stricker won this 4 years ago, was 3rd in 2009 and runner up last year so has form in the book.
David Toms also appeals on a course that will be ideal for his game and he can be backed at 33/1 with Stan James while Martin Laird will be a popular outsider at 80/1 (Betfred) to go one better than last year when he lost to Matt Kuchar in a playoff.
Ross Fisher is gradually coming back to form and looks the value 20/1 (Sportingbet) to land the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles – a course which will suit his game ideally. Gregory Havret looks overpriced at 55/1 with bet365 while Johan Edfors has a far better chance than his odds of 66/1 (Skybet) suggest.
Glenagles will be the venue for 2014 Ryder Cup and it is a shame it has not attracted a stronger field this week. It is also the start of qualifying and finishing event for the European team for the 2012 Ryder Cup in Medinah.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
