DREAM OF DREAMS (3.35) can land the feature Group 2 Unibet Hungerford Stakes over seven furlongs at Newbury.
Sir Michael Stoute’s gelding sets the bar high after just failing to reel in Hello Youmzain in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. Dream Of Dreams was denied Hungerford victory by Sir Dancealot in 2018 and this year’s renewal isn’t the strongest.
The Geoffrey Freer Stakes is another one of Newbury’s summer highlights and Morando found Technician just too strong last year. Andrew Balding’s seven-year-old is market leader to go one better and his chance will be boosted if the heavens open, but ALIGNAK (3.00) is a worthy opponent.
Stoute has brought the colt along very steadily and with only six career starts under his belt, Alignak is ready to take the next step up the ladder. He was pipped by Trueshan on his latest start at Haydock on good to soft and looks sure to give another bold account.
The Stoute team is also represented at Newmarket and BOSS POWER (2.05) can build on his Yarmouth success, despite going up in class. There was plenty to like about the way he stuck his neck out under pressure and Boss Power looks a steadily-improving middle-distance three-year-old worth a wager.
Richard Hughes is doubly represented in the 7f Betway Handicap, with KARIBANA (2.40) the pick. His top weight has been raised 6lb for a fairly comfortable course and distance success a fortnight ago and gets the nod over consistent Broughtons Gold.
Stoute is casting his net wide and THIBAAN (5.40) is interesting on handicap debut at Doncaster. The colt had the misfortune to run into subsequent Royal Ascot winner Frankly Darling at Newcastle on the resumption of racing and was turned over at odds of 2-5 by Godolphin newcomer Moving Light at Leicester. The winner could be smart and Thibaan is now fitted with a tongue-tie. John Gosden’s Nova Roma was a 4-9 shot at Newbury when well held in a hot Novice Stakes and also makes his handicap bow.
