Paul Ferguson two selections for us on Saturday; Longhouse Poet in the Navan 12:35 and Down The Highway in the Chepstow 2.30.
Chepstow stages a decent novices’ handicap chase, in which Sojourn is respected, following an impressive win at Market Rasen on debut.
However, he is taken on with Down The Highway (2:30) who shaped better than the bare result himself on debut and should appreciate this stiffer test and less demanding company. He ran well at the track over hurdles in January and appeals as the type to develop into a smart staying chaser, having jumped well when winning his sole Irish Point.
Over at Navan, Longhouse Poet (12:35) can get off the mark at the second time of asking over hurdles.
Martin Brassil’s five-year-old did little wrong on debut and drew nicely clear of the third, suggesting a race of this nature should be his for the taking before long. He looked a nice prospect when winning a bumper at the Punchestown Festival and it is interesting that Derek O’Connor – aboard for his bumper and Point-to-Point wins – is reunited.
Saturday’s selections:
12:35 Navan – Longhouse Poet; 5/6 bet365
2:30 Chepstow – Down The Highway; 8/1 bet365
