Paul Ferguson one selection for us on Saturday; Production in the 2.15 at Market Rasen
Market Rasen stages the only jumps card in England this weekend, where Monty’s Award is of some interest in the extended 2m5f handicap chase. He breezed through the race at Worcester recently, when looking all over the winner jumping the last. He was collared late on (idled on the run-in) and this stronger race might suit, as Aidan Coleman might be able to hold onto him for longer. Charlie Longsdon’s horses remain in fine form.
Another of interest is Earlofthecotswolds – a horse I put up a couple of times last season – as he won three times at this track last term and remains on an upward curve. Hailing from the Twiston-Davies stable (been among the winners this week) the five-year-old looks capable of scaling greater heights, but the trip just looks on the sharp side and is enough to put me off.
The one to side with at the track is hurdling debutant PRODUCTION (2:15) who was a useful middle-distance Flat handicapper and has the profile of a horse which Alan King does well with. Reported to have schooled well, the Oasis Dream gelding can make the most of the weight he receives from the penalised runners, to make a winning start under Wayne Hutchinson.
