Paul Ferguson three selections for us on Saturday from Haydock, Sandown and Bellewstown.
The returning Enable (3:35) is fancied to land Saturday’s Coral-Eclipse from Sandown.
The dual-Arc heroine hasn’t been seen since winning at the Breeders’ Cup in early-November, but she proved that she can go well fresh, when winning on the back of an 11-month absence at Kempton last September. That form now looks even stronger, thanks to the exploits of Crystal Ocean, and although this distance is slightly short of her optimum, she will relish the stiff finish.
Just 20 minutes earlier, the same connections have First Eleven (3:15) in action at Haydock, in the bet365 Old Newton Cup. Despite being burdened with top-weight and being drawn out wide (stall 17), the progressive four-year-old is also fancied to score.
The winner of York’s Jorvik Stakes on his reappearance, that form has worked out really well since, so a 5lbs rise certainly isn’t excessive. Now rated 109, the son of Frankel is verging on Group class and conditions (1m4f on quick ground) look ideal.
Over in Ireland, Streets of Doyen (7:50) is an interesting runner in the concluding bumper at Bellewstown.
A winner at Ayr for Stuart Crawford, the five-year-old was purchased by John McConnell at Doncaster in May, and he can make a winning debut for his new yard. Having travelled well under Brian Hughes, he didn’t have to be hard pressed to score with something to spare, and he looks a nice type for the time of year.
