IT ‘S Classic Trials day at Lingfield and ANAPURNA (1.55) can come out best of the three Frankel fillies going to post for the Oaks rehearsal. Anapurna thumped Charlie Appleby’s Dawn Crusade by five lengths on the Lingfield all-weather at the end of January and John Gosden’s three-year-old has the beating of stablemate Elisheba on a line through the Godolphin horse.
Aidan O’Brien’s Anthony Van Dyck is clear top-rated for the Racebets Derby Trial and is a general even-money chance. With ten runners declared, the each-way alternative is an improving son of Frankel, CAP FRANCOIS (2.30), runner-up to another O’Brien colt Cape Of Good Hope in the Investec Blue Riband Trial at Epsom last month.
LARCHMONT LAD (4.20) caught the eye when chasing home classy Hey Gaman at Leicester and can go one better in the Pertemps Network Spring Trophy at Haydock. He ran useful D’Bai to a head over course and distance last June and drying conditions will suit him.
OASIS DREAM (4.55) is another potential Haydock winner on the evidence of his all-the-way Beverley victory on quick ground when heavily backed. He is a typical improving Mark Johnston three-year-old and an opening mark of 88 should be workable in this one-mile handicap.
There is some competitive ITV racing at Ascot, none more so than the Tote Victoria Cup, and RIPP ORF (4.00) reserves his very best for the straight course. David Elsworth will have him fighting fit for his defence of last year’s victory off a lower mark. Rip Orf ran well in the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster and was poorly drawn when down the field in the Newbury Spring Cup, but there should be no excuses this time.
