Paul Ferguson two selections for us on Friday; Lust For Glory in the 1:50 at Ayr and Headman in the 4:10 at Newbury.
Although she has a bit to find on official ratings Lust For Glory (1:50) ought to relish conditions up at Ayr this afternoon and can land the opening novices’ hurdle for Nicky Henderson and owners Grech & Parkin.
She probably found the ground too soft when only 15th in the mares’ novice hurdle at Cheltenham and she will appreciate the much quicker surface here. Galvin and Getaway Trump set the standard, but both carry the maximum 10lb penalty, whilst Seddon is another who might appreciate this less demanding ground. Lust For Glory needs to step forward, but I’ve been waiting all year to see what she can do on genuinely good ground and she might prove up to the task.
Down at Newbury, the conditions stakes looks a potentially informative affair, with several lightly-raced previous winners taking on Turgenev, who probably just about sets the standard. Headman (4:10) created a good impression on his debut at Newcastle and again travelled sweetly when beaten at Kempton just 20 days later. Drawn out wide on that occasion, the Kingman colt ought to relish the step up in distance and although he would presumably appreciate a sounder surface, he is given the nod.
I’ve got the weekend off, so my column/selections will return next Tuesday. In the meantime, enjoy the action and have a good weekend.
