Paul Ferguson has two selections from Sandown; Veracious at 3.00, Too Darn Hot at 3.35 and Project Bluebook in the 5.35 at Chester.
Following an impressive winning debut at this track last month Too Darn Hot (3:35) is taken to land the Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown this afternoon.
Beautifully bred, he easily won a maiden here over a mile and whilst this represents a big step up in class and a small drop in distance, he is fancied to maintain his 100% record, given the impression he made on debut. John Gosden saddled both Raven’s Pass and Kingman to win this race in recent years, the latter on just his second start, too.
Earlier on the card Veracious (3:00) can provide Sir Michael Stoute with a seventh win in the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes, a race he last won outright with Dank in 2012, with Integral dead-heating the following year.
Veracious represents the same owners as Integral and appears to be peaking at the right time, after finishing third in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood. Both pieces of form stand out here and with the drop back in trip in her favour, she should take a bit of beating.
Up at Chester Project Bluebook (5:35) is of interest in the concluding staying handicap, for John Quinn and JP McManus.
A smart dual-purpose performer, he ought to appreciate the easier surface than when contesting a stronger event at Newmarket in July, and he has since run in the Galway Hurdle. He ran well at Aintree’s Grand National meeting and judged on both hurdling form and his couple of runs on the level last summer, he looks capable of landing a race of this nature.
Saturday’s selections:
3:00 Sandown – Veracious; 4/5 bet365
3:35 Sandown – Too Darn Hot; 10/11 Coral
5:35 Chester – Project Bluebook; 6/1 Ladbrokes
