UBER COOL (3.40) could pop up at a nice price in the Dubai Cesarewitch at Newmarket. Jane Chapple-Hyam’s stayer impressed at Yarmouth on his return from an injury sustained in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot and talented 5lb apprentice Ray Dawson retains the mount. Tony Bloom’s light blue silks were carried to victory 12 months ago by Withhold and he has another leading contender in Stratum, hampered when sent off favourite for the Ebor Handicap. Willie Mullins has a strong hand and Galway festival winner Uradel will relish this 2m 2f test. Aidan O’Brien’s decision to strip St Leger third Southern France for action has to be respected.
O’Brien won last year’s running of the Zetland Stakes with Kew Gardens and is doubly represented by SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE (1.50) and Norway. Sydney Opera House mopped up a maiden at the Curragh last month and chased home stablemate Mohawk in the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at HQ.
TOO DARN HOT (3.00) will be a warm order to extend his unbeaten sequence in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes after he made light work of the opposition when landing the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster.
At York, ALTERNATIVE FACT (2.05) will appreciate the drop in trip after weakening close home behind Communique at Newbury. Ed Dunlop’s colt handles soft ground and there are showers in the weather forecast.
The Coral Sprint is a minefield for punters but SAVALAS (3.15), a triple winner in the spring, should go well if there is some cut underfoot. Kevin Ryan’s gelding returned to form when third in a Conditions event at Beverley last time.
