Paul Ferguson has two selections from Royal Ascot for us on Wednesday; Hydrangea at 3:40 and Cracksman at 4:20.
Day two at Royal Ascot could be a good one for favourite backers and Cracksman (4:20) is very much the one to beat in the day’s feature, the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes.
After a hugely impressive winning return in France, he was forced to work extremely hard to reel in Salouen late on, having looked ill at ease on the track. Back on a more conventional course – and a track where he beat today’s main market rival by 7 lengths over an extra quarter-mile – I expect him to return to his best and win in an authoritative manner.
Earlier on the card Hydrangea (3:40) is another who was successful here on British Champions Day and can follow up. Runner-up on her return, it can be assumed that connections had one eye on this race and judged on last year’s form, she is the best filly on show in an average looking Duke Of Cambridge Stakes.
Wednesday’s selections:
3:40 Royal Ascot: Hydrangea; 7/4 William Hill
4:20 Royal Ascot: Cracksman; 8/13 Paddy Power
