Five to follow on Saturday

Alan Thomson, the former Racing Editor at the Daily Record, puts up five tips at Lingfield and Newcastle on Saturday. View selections below.

ENCORE D’OR (2.55) has bright prospects of repeating last year’s success in the Class 2 sprint at Lingfield.

Ryan Moore’s mount bounced back to form last Saturday, just failing on the nod to catch Gracious John off a 2lb higher mark. Ryan Moore has a tricky draw in stall one to overcome as Encore D’Or is likely to track a hot pace and wait for a gap.

Atletico finished strongly behind Reflektor at Wolverhampton over six furlongs but is equally effective at the minimum trip.

SEA FOX (1.45) has the ideal each-way profile if all eight runners go to post for the mile handicap.

The gelding was just denied in a blanket finish by in-form Goring and Mr Scaramanga here seven days ago when Sea Fox compromised his chance with a sloppy start. Chevallier lost many lengths at the stalls and did well to run into sixth, but looks held by my selection.

SEAPORT (5.10) could surprise a few of his rivals trading at shorter prices in the 2m apprentices’ handicap.

The top weight has four lengths to make up on in-form Mambo Dancer on their Wolverhampton running but is 13lb better off. Seaport looked the likely winner three out but was sent for home possibly a little too early and was a spent force at the furlong pole.

Mambo Dancer won in convincing fashion at Chelmsford City earlier in the week and trainer Mark Johnston mopped up this prize 12 months ago with Tartan Bute.

Author’s Dream has been in grand form but is up in the ratings in a better quality event.

At Newcastle, NAUTICAL NITWIT (3.15) looked on top of his game at Doncaster last month.

Phil Kirby’s gelding split a useful pair in Gunfleet and Clondaw Native over three miles and Nautical Nitwit should handle this drop in trip as he travelled strongly throughout.

ARTHURS SECRET (4.20) is another horse dropping in distance having run seventh to smart southern raider Calett Mad over 3m 2f at Musselburgh. The eight-year-old wasn’t beaten far and Rachel McDonald’s 7lb claim will come in useful.
