Paul Ferguson two selections from Newbury for us on Saturday; Crystal Hope at 4.50 and Surrey Hope at 5.25.
An impressive winner at Sandown last month Crystal Hope (4:50) is fancied to take the step up in grade in her stride, in this afternoon’s Listed Fillies’ Trial at Newbury.
Sir Michael Stoute’s well-bred Nathaniel filly defied odds of 14-1 when shedding her maiden tag on her reappearance and that form was well advertised during the week, with runner-up Give And Take winning Wednesday’s Musidora Stakes. Crystal Hope was in receipt of 6lbs last time, but she won in fine style and in the manner of a potentially smart prospect.
In the concluding handicap Surrey Hope (5:25) is of interest on his first start since January. Joseph Tuite’s four-year-old was progressive last term and he has a decent record when fresh, so the lay-off isn’t a concern. Reverting to the turf and this long straight should play to his strengths, so a big run looks on the cards.
Saturday’s selections:
