After a really encouraging return to action at Aintree four weeks ago Debece (2:00) is fancied to land the opening handicap hurdle at Haydock.
A smart novice hurdler the season before, Tim Vaughan’s seven-year-old ran very well for a long way – tired late on when fourth to Mr Big Shot – and remains on a fair mark. This looks an easier assignment and, if he has improved for that recent run, he should go very close.
Elsewhere, Jungle Room (5:35) can defy a 9lbs rise in the weights at Nottingham. Kevin Ryan’s three-year-old showed a fine turn of foot to score at Wolverhampton last time and ought to relish the step up to a mile, as well as the long home straight here.
