Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Lostintranslation in the 2:05 at Haydock and Oxwich Bay in the Ascot 2:25.
A heavy ground maiden winner at Ffos Las in December Oxwich Bay (2:25) is fancied to go well in this afternoon’s handicap hurdle from Ascot.
Evan Williams’ six-year-old had earlier finished runner-up in a novices’ handicap at Cheltenham, a race that has worked out really well since. He is 9lbs higher than that day, but he seems on an upward curve and ought to handle the testing conditions. Likely to travel well and arrive on the scene late on, Mitch Bastyan takes off a handy 5lbs and he is worth supporting each-way.
If Haydock gets the go-ahead Lostintranslation (2:05) is the one to be with in the Grade 2 Rossington Main Novices’ Hurdle.
Despite reservations about the ground – won on soft but Robbie Power stated he will be better on decent ground post-race – and the fact that Colin Tizzard hasn’t been in as good a form as earlier in the campaign of late, he is worth siding with at the odds (third in the betting at 11-4 at the time of writing).
Potentially the best long-term prospect in this six-strong field, the six-year-old looks a future chaser and he travelled powerfully en route to winning at Newbury last time.
Saturday’s selections:
2:05 Haydock:Lostintranslation; 3/1 Coral
2:25 Ascot:Oxwich Bay; 7/1 Boylesports
