KALASHNIKOV (3.35) appears primed for a huge run in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury.
Amy Murphy has an exciting novice on her hands, with his only defeat coming in the Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown on very deep ground.
Kalashnikov reportedly lost a shoe in the mud and the five-year-old will be better served by this less testing ground. He had earlier mopped up two novice hurdles in most impressive fashion.
Gary Moore has scooped this big pot three times and Knocknanuss has a live chance of making it four on the back of an impressive Boxing Day triumph at Fontwell. Those two progressive youngsters will do for me at each-way odds.
WHATSWRONGWITHYOU (1.15) is a strong fancy in the novices’ hurdle on the back of his narrow verdict over Ok Corral at Newbury last month.
That form was given a very timely boost yesterday when Ok Corral hosed up at Kempton and the top weight should be able to give away 6lb to his rivals.
NATIVE RIVER (2.25) makes a welcome return to the fray as he bids to follow up last year’s success in the Betfair Denman Chase.
Colin Tizzard’s gelding enjoyed a tremendous 2017, winning the Hennessy Gold Cup, the Welsh Grand National and running third in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
With his stable back in form, Native River is well treated against two smart rivals in Cloudy Dream and Saphir Du Rheu.
BREWIN’UPASTORM (4.45) should give his backers a good run for their money in what is probably the hottest bumper of the season so far.
Olly Murphy’s son of Milan powered home from a decent yardstick at Hereford and Richard Johnson gets the leg up.
MIDNIGHT TOUR (2.05) hasn’t been running up to her lofty official rating but with Alan King banging in winners this week she remains capable of conceding 4lb to all her rivals in the Listed mares’ hurdle at Warwick.
Her best run this season came over three miles at Kempton when chasing home very useful La Bague Au Roi and Jer’s Girl at the end of November.
