Live on Sky Sports 4: Thu 08:00 & 20:00 Angus Loughran previews the 2014 Alfred Dunhill Championship.
I was really taken by the runaway win of Jordan Speith in Florida last week but it wasn’t just his victory it was the manner of it that impressed me; he looks like a serious prospect for 2015.
With PGA Tour now taking its break until the new year, Speith can have a well earned rest but on the European Tour the action moves to Kruger Park and the superb Leopard Creek Course for The Alfred Dunhill Championship.
Charl Schwartzel loves this course and even though he is only 7/1, he has to be included in this week’s betting portfolio. The main dangers are likely to be last week’s Sun City winner Danny Willett and fellow South African Louis Oosthuizen, who loves the course and is clearly playing well.
I have to admit, I was shocked to find out he has missed the cut on his last five visits here and even though I feel he is coming into this event in decent nick I cannot recommend anything other than a win saver on him given that record.
I am really looking forward to the pro debuts of two players this week. Matt Fitzpatrick was an outstanding amateur and looks to have a big future. He is a young golfer who could easily win on the tour in 2015 and at 100/1 to start with a win and 3/1 to start with a top 20, he is certainly one of the best young domestic prospects in the game.
The other is a young Italian called Renato Paratore from Rome, who has yet to turn 18. Third in Qualifying School, he looks an exciting talent and is 150/1 this week. Alternatively, he’s 9/2 to be in top 20 but the price I like is the 100/1 about him being the first round leader as he has a great tee time at 6.40am and is paired with Bradley Neil of Scotland.
Paratore is playing very well at present and could easily make a fast start, but whatever his score he is a highly talented young lad and one to keep an eye on during 2015 and beyond.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
