Live on Sky Sports 4: Thu 10:30 & 20:00 Angus Loughran previews the Scottish Open and John Deere Classic
Phil Mickelson is 200/1 to repeat last year’s Scottish Open and Open Championship double and he has a decent chance in Aberdeen this week in what should be a tremendous event. Mickelson is a generous 25/1 while Justin Rose and Rory Mcllroy both head the market at 14/1.
I expect low scoring and rate Stan James’s offer of 33/1 about a Lee Westwood success as very fair, especially as they are one of the firms paying six places to each way punters.
Louis Oosthuizen is also well over the odds at 60/1 and Jimmy Walker is another who looks overpriced at 45/1 in one of the strongest events on the European Tour.
Jordan Spieth stole the headlines 12 months ago with his memorable win in the John Deere Classic and is a top price of 12/1 to retain his title but I prefer the chances of Zach Johnson at 14/1, Ryan Moore (22/1) and amongst the longer priced runners, 66/1 shot Kevin Chappell in a tournament that offers an Open Championship berth to any winner that hasn’t already qualified.
Elsewhere, Bernhard Langer is a worthy market leader at 13/2 to win this year’s US Senior Open while Colin Montgomorie will be a popular alternative at 14/1.
Stacey Lewis finally is a 5/1 chance ahead of the Women’s British Open at Birkdale this week but I rate Inbee Park at 14/1 and Michelle Wie (12/1), who recently won the US Open as better value in an event which has extensive live coverage on the BBC.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
