Live on Sky Sports 4: Thu 10:30 & 20:00 Angus Loughran previews this week’s Spanish Open & Byron Nelson Championship. Selections.
Jordan Speith is a 12/1 market leader for this week’s Byron Nelson after his superb Masters display while his fourth place finish at Sawgrass in the Players Championship was another great effort, but in order to be a really top player he must soon seize these winning chances he is creating.
Having watched him closely since he burst onto the scene I have no doubt Speith will be the real deal, however, he is plenty short enough this week.
I like the chances of Keegan Bradley; he won here in 2011 beating Ryan Palmer in a play-off and finished runner-up last year so at 22/1 he should give backers a decent run for their money.
Of the outsiders Rory Sabbatini, winner of the event in 2009, is playing some better golf than his scores suggest and 66/1 looks over the odds. Paul Casey meanwhile, continues to play under the radar and at 60/1 is once again value; I would be very suprised if he didn’t end up a winner again very soon.
All eyes in Spain this weekend, will be on the Camp Nou as Barcelona face Atletico Madrid in the La Liga title decider but just down the road in Girona is the Spanish Open, where Sergio Garcia is a warm favourite at 5/1 to win on home soil in a rare visit.
David Horsey looks a big price at 66/1 and Italian Matteo Manassero, who will next weekend defend his BMW PGA Championship title at Wentworth in one of the season’s biggest events, is surely overpriced at 40/1 on a course that really will suit, despite lacking a bit of form at present.
Tommy Fleetwood at 33/1 is the other player that appeals in an event set to be played in glorious sunshine.
Good luck
