Sergio Garcia and Henrik Stenson head the market at 8/1 in this week’s Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, which starts on Wednesday while PGA Champion Jason Dufner, a welcome visitor from the USA, is available at 18/1.
I like the chances of Thomas Bjorn at 20/1 as he bids to join Paul Lawrie and Adam Scott as the third dual winner here. Bjorn is playing some superb golf at the moment and has to be considered a value bet.
Luke Donald does not often include this event in his schedule, he was 25th on his only start in 2008, but he catches the eye at 25/1. In addition, George Coetzee, a runner-up last week, appeals at 30/1 and Danny Willett is an eye catching outsider at 80/1.
Tiger Woods starts his 2014 campaign at Torrey Pines looking for his eighth win at the course, six of his victories having come in the Farmers Insurance Open and the other in the 2008 US Open, Woods’ last Major triumph. Given his course record the top price is just 14/5 but nevertheless he should be fresh and he’s impossible to ignore.
For those looking for a value alternative Brandt Snedeker fits the bill at 25/1; as well as winning here in 2012 he was runner-up in 2010 and also placed third in 2007.
Rickie Fowler looks big at 50/1, as does 40/1 shot Nick Watney who may be out of form but plays well here. Meanwhile, where huge prices are concerned, John Rollins at 175/1 with Stan James has drawn me in.
Phil Mickleson finally, will be happy with his week’s work in Abu Dhabi even though he could have won and he has the potential to go well but jet lag may be a hindrance, so Tiger is the man to beat as 2014 season gets back in full swing on both sides of Atlantic.
