Live on Sky Sports 1: Thu: 10:30 & 23:00 Angus Loughran previews the Omega European Masters tournament.
The Omega Masters is the week’s highlight as there is no action on the PGA Tour, following Monday’s triumph in Boston by Swede Henrik Stenson, clearly the world’s most consistent golfer at present.
16 European Tour winners line up at Crans-sur-Sierre, with Matteo Manassero – ranked 31st in the world and winner of BMW PGA at Wentworth in May – a decent bet at 25/1 after a recent rest. He has some good course form having finished third here in 2010 and with length not essential here, this course looks perfect for him to win again.
Nobody plays this venue better than Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, who has enjoyed a remarkable nine top ten finishes at this venue and won here in 2010. Most firms are paying five places this week but keep an eye out for those offering six, including Stan James, to get the best possible value on a Jimenez wager at 25/1.
Paul Casey has got back into the world’s top 100 but he is a better player than his ranking of 98, as his Irish Open triumph showed, so he also looks a decent price this week at 25/1.
Simon Dyson at 40/1 arguably looks the best each-way pick this week; he has played well here before and is gradually finding a bit of form while of the higher- priced runners Fredrik Andersson Hed at 80/1 looks too big.
Both of these players will have no problem with the testing conditions forecast in Switzerland over the weekend, at one of the most beautiful spots on the European Tour schedule.
Good luck
