Angus Loughran’s golf tips

Live on Sky Sports 1 & 3, Thu: 10.00 & 20:00 Angus Loughran previews this week’s Irish Open and AT&T Nationals tournaments.

Rory Mcllroy heads the market at 8/1 with Stan James for this week’s Irish Open and this is an event he, like all Irishmen, would dearly love to win.

Graeme McDowell who has has had a great 2013, but missed the cut in US Open, will also be popular at 16/1 via Paddy Power while William Hill offer 5/2 about any Irish winner at Carton House this weekend.

Thomas Bjorn is a dangerous player when on a roll and has hit a bit of form so he’s understandbly been well backed at 16/1 (Ladbrokes) while Skybet’s 25/1 shot Ross Fisher is another capable of going well.

In terms of each-way interest Paul Casey is still on the comeback trail but I think he has a far better chance than his odds of 45/1 (Stan James) suggest and elsewhere, Brett Rumford has been one of the stories of 2013 so far but appears to have little chance according to Coral, who rate him at 80/1, a price that looks far too big.

One bet that really appeals to me meanwhile, is Boylesports’ 5/2 that we will get a play-off as this looks like an event that could go down to the wire.

Over the Atlantic, the AT & T National event has not only lost Tiger Woods but also Justin Rose who cited fatigue as his reason for withdrawal; he will have had many more requests for his time since winning the US Open and understandably doesn’t want to suffer burnout ahead of the Open Championship at Muirfield next month.

Adam Scott heads the market at the Congressional Country Club at 12/1 with Bet365 while Betfred post 22/1 against Billy Horschel whose chances I like and Rickie Fowler at 25/1 courtesy of William Hill is also likely to give backers a good run for their money.

Finally, Kevin Chappell is a player I have been keeping a close eye on recently and at 55/1 via Bet365 he possesses solid each-way claims this week.

Fred Couples heads the market at 6/1 (Paddy Power) for the Senior PGA this week where I like Ladbrokes’ 20/1 chance Kenny Perry.

Stacy Lewis meanwhile, at 14/1 with Betfred represents decent each-way value ahead of the US Womens Open where Inbee Park is bet365’s clear, 11/2 favourite.

Good luck

Angus Loughran
