Live on Sky Sports 2, Thu: 20:00 Angus Loughran previews this week’s Players Championship at Sawgrass.
Tiger Woods heads the market at 8/1 with Skybet for this weeks Players Championship and is clearly the man to beat and is worth a win saver to cover other bets in what looks a wide open event which over the years despite its unofficial status as The 5th Major has provided many shock winners.
Tim Clark won here at 100/1 in 2010 and looks decent each way value here at 75/1 with Bet365 and a tempting 5/1 with Coral to be top South African in a field of 7 players, while another with great course form is Ben Crane looks over priced at 110/1 (Stan James) and would have rewarded each way backers on 3 of his last 5 starts if you could have got 6 places.
Sergio Garcia is my other selection this week at 35/1 (Comeon.com), he has been playing some great golf in 2013 and won here in 2008 he likes the course and has plenty in his favour this week. Garcia can also be backed at 9/1 to be top European this week or at 11/4 for a top 10 finish for the safer option or more conservative punters.
This is one of the seasons hardest events to solve but also one of the most enjoyable of the year the course should lead to great scoring over first 3 days after plenty of rain last week but the forecast is not great for Sunday
Good luck
Angus Loughran
