Live on Sky Sports 4: Thu 00:00 & 11:00 Angus Loughran previews this week’s Sony Open and Volvo Golf Champions tournaments
Jordan Speith showed enough to me last week to suggest he will be a real contender during 2014 and he looks worth a bet at 16/1 in this week’s Sony Open, especially as Paddy Power are offering six places for each-way backers. Adam Scott meanwhile, heads the market at 8/1 in his first start of 2014.
Charles Howell does not win as often as he should but plays really well here and at 22/1 is worth following each-way and for those who like the huge outsiders, the course will suit John Rollins who has a better each-way chance than his odds of 100/1 suggest.
Charl Schwartzel will be hard to beat in this week’s Volvo Golf Champions tournament in Durban but though he will be hard to beat, the South African is a top price of just 7/2 which is not as big as I was hoping for.
2014 is a huge year for Matteo Manassero, who has a great chance of making the 2014 Ryder Cup Team and on a course which will plays to his strengths, the winner of the 2013 BMW PGA at Wentworth looks overpriced this week at 28/1.
Louis Oosthuizen finally, won here last year thanks to some superb putting and although he has had injury problems, he’s worth a saver at 16/1 in this small field, on a course he cleary loves.
Good luck
Angus Loughran
