Live on Sky Sports 2: Thu 11:00 & 23:59 Angus Loughran previews this week’s Volvo Golf Champions and Sony Open tournaments
A great start to 2013 with Dustin Johnson at 14/1 landing the seasons opener in Hawaii even though the first 3 days were lost to high winds 36 holes were played on Monday and 18 on Tuesday to make event official and Dustin to climb to 12th in the World.
The PGA Tour moves to Honolulu this week where they hope the winds are not so severe. Dustin Johnson is 10/1 favourite at betvictor for the Sony Open and has an obvious chance but last week was really tough on the players at Kapalua and those fresh ought to have an advantage.
I like KJ Choi at 50/1 (Stan James) which is decent value odds for a player who will love the track and plays really well with a breeze. Chad Campbell (80/1 at Stan James) should also go well with Bud Cauley should have a really big year in 2013 and played well enough here last season. He is cleary one of the best young Americans at present and and should make great progress in 2013 and worth an each way shout at 40/1 with Skybet.
If Bud Cauley is one to watch in America in 2013 then Matteo Manessero is the young man to watch in Europe. His win in Novembers Singapore Open in November lifted him into Worlds Top 50 and there is more to come for sure he looks to have a game perfectly suited to Durban links venue for this weeks Volvo Golf Champions and is a great bet at 20/1 at Ladbrokes to make the perfect start to 2013.
Nobody knows the track than Multiple winner Ernie Els who holds course record and has won 2 South Africa Opens at venue in 1998 and 2010 at 7/1 he well worth a win saver at Betway.com
Paul Casey at 25/1 (Betway.com) will be desperate to put 2012 behind him and should go really well while Paul Lawrie continues to be underated by bookies and looks overpriced again this week also at 25/1 with bet365.com
Good luck
Angus Loughran
